Miriam Quesada

Miriam Quesada is a second-generation coffee producer who has shaped El Guayacan into a focused, quality-driven farm since taking it over in 2005. After the land was divided within her family, she chose to continue building on the work started by the previous generation, gradually refining cultivation practices and investing in better processing infrastructure. We began working with Miriam because her approach aligns closely with what we value: steady improvements, transparent farming, and a clear commitment to quality over volume. Each visit shows how she continues to refine her methods while maintaining a grounded, practical outlook shaped by years of hands-on experience.

Set in Huila’s cool, fertile hillsides, El Guayacan benefits from rich soils and steady altitude that shape its balanced and fruity coffees.

El Guayacan sits at 1550 masl in Huila, where stable temperatures and volcanic-influenced soils support slow, even cherry maturation. Pink Bourbon has become the farm’s main variety, chosen for its lively, naturally fruity expression under these growing conditions. Beyond coffee, plantain and yucca provide both shade and an additional source of income for the family. After harvest, cherries are floated to remove low-density fruit, then sealed for several days of controlled anaerobic fermentation before being dried in a dedicated facility with frequent turning. This careful process reflects Miriam’s practical, detail-driven approach to quality. Their focus on selective picking is supported by training and incentives for local workers, reinforcing their role as a dependable employer in the community.
