Fazenda Santa Hedwirges has been in the Brito family for over 90 years and spans four production centres in Sul de Minas. Now led by fourth-generation farmer Hugo Brito, the farm balances its long heritage with forward-looking investments in processing infrastructure and sustainable practices. When we visited in 2024, Hugo welcomed us warmly and gave us a full tour of the nursery, drying stations, and fermentation systems. His openness and clear dedication to both quality and innovation made a strong impression. We started working with Hugo that same year, with this natural Yellow Catuai lot selected for its consistency and classic espresso profile.
Mild altitude, steady rainfall and rich soil define this corner of Sul de Minas.
Santa Hedwirges sits at 900 metres above sea level and covers 1,200 hectares across four locations: Boa Esperança, Elói Mendes, Santana da Vargem, and Varginha. The farm grows Catuai, Catucai, and Arara, with plans to gradually replace older varieties like Mundo Novo and Bourbon with the more productive Arara. Hugo is also upgrading drying infrastructure to reduce defects and increase consistency. Natural coffees are either patio-dried or processed in static dryers. The nursery produces up to 300,000 seedlings each year, contributing to the long-term renewal of the farm. During harvest, Santa Hedwirges provides work for over 200 people, and the Brito family continues to invest in environmental management and biodiversity on their land.
