Bakers Student/Flexi (12-20h)
Wide Awake operates three cafés across Brussels, all with different concepts and designs, yet united by the idea of pushing the boundaries of hospitality and coffee. Across our cafés, we represent years of dedication at origin, long-term partnerships with producers, meticulous roasting at our roastery, and precise execution at the bar. The baker is the final link in that chain: the person who translates recipes, technique, and craftsmanship into a meaningful experience for every guest. We are building a culture of hospitality and craft that is intentional, knowledgeable, and detail-driven, where quality is paramount, and every pastry reflects the care behind it. If you take pride in mastering your craft, thrive in environments where precision and teamwork matter, and want to help elevate how people experience our bakery products, we would love to meet you.
This role includes, but isn’t limited to:
- Baking & preparation: Prepare and bake our homemade pastries and baked goods following recipe sheets. You will weigh ingredients precisely, shape and finish pastries, and ensure everything is baked to our high standards.
- Kitchen organisation: Receive and check ingredient deliveries, organise stock, and maintain an orderly and efficient kitchen.
- Hospitality support: Assist the café team as needed, including plating, packing pastries, and helping ensure customers enjoy our products at their best.
- Cleaning & hygiene: Keep your workspace and equipment clean at all times. Follow opening/closing and sanitation procedures meticulously.
- Continuous improvement: Follow recipes and training while contributing ideas to help refine workflows and product quality.
For this role you need:
- Previous experience in hospitality
- Passion for cooking/baking, precision, and high-quality food
- Student/Flexi status for a minimum of 1 year
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
- Self-aware and able to regulate your energy and communication effectively
- Social and team-oriented personality; willing to collaborate across the café and kitchen
- Able to receive feedback and work towards continuous improvement
- Fluent in English & French; Dutch is a strong plus
Working at Wide Awake, you get:
- A challenging, respectful, progressive, and open-minded work environment
- 12–20 hours per week
- Competitive salary
- Hands-on, regular training in pastry preparation and bakery techniques (plus coffee related trainings on request)
- Discount on coffee beans and equipment
- Free coffee and pastry on shift
