Barista Part-time (22.5h/week)

Wide Awake operates two cafés in Brussels, Lesbroussart and St. Catherine, each with its own concept and design, yet united by the idea of pushing the boundaries of hospitality and coffee. Across both cafés, we represent years of dedication at origin, long-term partnerships with producers, meticulous roasting at our roastery, and precise execution at the bar. The barista is the final link in that chain: the person who translates sourcing, profiling and craftsmanship into a meaningful experience for every guest.

The role

We are looking for an experienced barista who is passionate about specialty coffee and exceptional hospitality. You will play a steady, reliable part in the daily running of the bar, and help our newer team members grow by sharing what you know.

This role includes but isn't limited to:

Operations

  • Deliver warm, attentive customer service
  • Prepare espresso-based drinks, filter coffee and non-coffee drinks to the highest standards
  • Keep your workspace spotless and open/close the café following our detailed cleaning instructions
  • Report inventory, refill supplies and complete general daily shop tasks

Coffee

  • Take part in the daily espresso dial-in and help create great-tasting recipes
  • Know the coffees on our menus and shelves individually, and be able to speak about their origin, processing and flavour
  • Help customers find the right coffee for their taste and equipment, and share your brewing skills and recipes
  • Support and coach junior baristas on the bar

For this role you need :

  • At least 1 year of experience as a barista or 2 years in hospitality
  • A real passion for coffee and food, and the curiosity to keep learning
  • Strong sensory skills: you can adjust brewing parameters to influence taste
  • Excellent people skills; you work well in a team and communicate clearly with colleagues
  • You love engaging with guests
  • Organised and meticulous; you keep a clean work environment
  • Open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement
  • Comfortable working efficiently in a busy environment
  • Available at least one weekend day per week
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Dutch (a strong plus)

You must already have the necessary paperwork to work in the EU.
