Chelchele

From the village of Chelchele in Gedeb, this washed heirloom coffee captures the clarity and elegance of Ethiopian highlands.

Chelchele is a washing station in Ethiopia’s Gedeb district, where smallholder farmers bring heirloom varieties grown at high altitude. Situated at 1900 masl, the area benefits from fertile red-brown soils, reliable rainfall and cool average temperatures, creating excellent conditions for slow, balanced cherry development. The station operates with extensive infrastructure, including fermentation tanks, drying beds and water storage, ensuring careful washed processing. This method highlights clarity and structure, drawing out the elegant character for which Gedeb coffees are known. Expect a bright, tea-like cup with layered notes of lemon, green tea, passion fruit and nectarine.
