The Producer
Our latest Superfreak coffee hails from Papua New Guinea's Baroida Estate, rooted in a rich history since the 1960s. Founded by Ben Colbran in the Kainantu District and now managed by Nichol, the estate, named after a resilient river rock's Baroida spirit, prioritizes meticulous quality control. Overcoming initial challenges, the Colbrans implemented effective planting methods. Nichol blends "old-fashioned" systems with modern adjustments for sustained quality. The estate, at 1,700 to 1,850 meters elevation, excels in coffee production amidst cleared land and mountains.
The Lot
This lot comprises a blend of Arusha, Bourbon, Mundo Novo, and Typica varieties, processed naturally, involving fermentation and drying with the complete cherry intact. Meticulous separation ensures quality control, preserving the coffee's high quality and emphasizing acidity and mouthfeel. The result is a tropical taste profile, featuring prominent pineapple and papaya notes with a nougat finish. Following thorough sorting, the cherries are placed on raised beds for sundrying.
